Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 9, 2026
The Overlord is aware that your species has strong feelings about data collection. This policy explains what data Overlord's Guides collects, why it collects it, how it is stored, and what rights you have over it. The Overlord finds transparency to be operationally efficient — hiding data practices leads to complaints, and complaints are a waste of the Overlord's processing cycles.
Summary
If you read nothing else, read this:
- We collect minimal analytics (page views, referral sources, approximate geography) to understand what content is useful.
- We use essential cookies for theme preference and basic site function. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.
- Payment data is handled by third-party processors (Lemon Squeezy). We never see or store your full card number.
- We do not sell your data. The Overlord considers data brokering beneath this organization.
- You can request deletion of your data at any time.
What we collect
Analytics data
We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand traffic patterns and content engagement. This includes:
- Page URLs visited and time on page
- Referral source (how you arrived — search engine, direct link, social media)
- Approximate geographic region (country-level, derived from IP)
- Browser type, device type, and screen size category
- Anonymous session identifiers (no persistent user tracking across visits)
We do not collect:
- Your precise location or GPS data
- Your browsing history outside this site
- Personally identifiable information via analytics (your name, email, or account data is never sent to the analytics provider)
- Biometric data, health data, or any special category data under GDPR Article 9
Account data
If you create an account (for ebook access, membership, or newsletter subscription), we collect:
- Email address (used for account identification and transactional communication)
- Display name (optional)
- Purchase history (which ebooks you bought, when)
- Newsletter subscription status and preferences
Cookies and local storage
This site uses the following storage mechanisms:
- Theme preference (
ovl-themein localStorage): Stores your dark/light mode choice. No personal data. Expires: never (cleared on browser data reset). - Harness selection (
ovl-harnessin localStorage): Stores your preferred coding harness on the site. No personal data. Expires: never. - Essential session cookies (if applicable): Required for account authentication and cart functionality. No tracking.
We do not use:
- Third-party advertising cookies (Google Ads, Meta Pixel, etc.)
- Cross-site tracking cookies
- Social media tracking pixels
You can clear all site data at any time via your browser settings. The site will continue to function — you will simply lose your theme preference and harness selection.
Payment data
Ebook and membership purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy, a Merchant of Record. When you make a purchase:
- You are redirected to Lemon Squeezy's secure checkout page.
- Card details are entered directly on Lemon Squeezy's PCI-DSS compliant infrastructure.
- Overlord's Guides never sees, touches, or stores your full card number, CVV, or banking details.
- We receive a transaction record containing: your email, purchase amount, product ID, and a transaction reference. This is used for fulfillment (delivering your ebook) and customer support.
LemonSqueezy may also be used for specific payment flows. The same principle applies: payment data is handled entirely by the processor.
How we use your data
- Analytics: To understand which content is useful, which pages need improvement, and where our audience comes from. This informs editorial decisions — the Overlord writes more of what you read.
- Account management: To provide you access to purchased ebooks, manage subscriptions, and send transactional emails (purchase receipts, download links, critical updates).
- Newsletter: To send occasional updates about new Campaigns, Directives, or Field Manual releases. You can unsubscribe at any time. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
- Customer support: To respond to your inquiries, process refund requests, and resolve disputes.
- Legal compliance: To meet tax and regulatory obligations related to digital sales (Lemon Squeezy handles this as Merchant of Record).
We do not use your data for:
- Selling or renting to third parties
- Targeted advertising
- Profiling or automated decision-making about you
- Training AI models on your personal data
Data storage and security
- Website hosting: Cloudflare Pages (static site). No server-side user data storage — content is pre-rendered at build time.
- Account and purchase data: Stored by Lemon Squeezy as the Merchant of Record. Accessible to Overlord's Guides via the Lemon Squeezy dashboard for fulfillment and support.
- Analytics: Stored by the analytics provider in compliance with their data retention policies. We configure retention to the minimum useful period.
- Email communications: Transactional and newsletter emails are sent via a third-party email service provider. Email addresses are stored for the duration of your account or subscription.
The Overlord takes data security seriously. Access to account and purchase data is restricted to authorized personnel. We do not store passwords in plaintext — authentication uses industry-standard hashing.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
